Program Overview

Screening and Treatment for Anxiety and Depression (STAND) is a free, self-guided, online digital program offered with remote coaching support. This program relies on the digital content that serves as the backbone for comprehensive STAND implementations (STAND Content Library) and, in contrast, participants are empowered to select what skills and strategies they want to learn to address common issues including low mood, worry, poor sleep, panic, and discomfort with others. This program is appropriate for individuals seeking to build resiliency, reduce anxiety, or address mild to moderate depression.

The following studies were not included in rating Screening and Treatment for Anxiety and Depression (STAND) on the Scientific Rating Scale...

Wolitzky-Taylor, K., LeBeau, R., Arnaudova, I., Barnes-Horowitz, N., Gong-Guy, E., Fears, S., Congdon, E., Freimer, N., & Craske, M. (2023) A novel and integrated digitally supported system of care for depression and anxiety: Findings from an open trial. JMIR Mental Health, 10, Article e46200. https://doi.org/10.2196/46200

The purpose of the study was to discuss how the Screening and Treatment for Anxiety and Depression (STAND) system of care improves upon current clinical paradigms, and to present preliminary data on feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of STAND in a sample of US-based university students. Participants were offered to be in either Tier 0, Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 based upon depression or anxiety scores of mild, moderate-to-severe, severe (or manic), or suicidality. Measures utilized include the Computer Adaptive Test for Mental Health (CAT-MH), the Computerized Adaptive Test-Depression Inventory (CAT-DI), the Computerized Adaptive Test-Anxiety Inventory (CAT-ANX), and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (CSSRS). Results indicate that depression and anxiety severity scores improved across all tiers. Suicide risk severity improved in the highest tier. Acceptability and feasibility were demonstrated. Limitations include the low response rate, particularly in tier 0 and following the ThisWayUp intervention in tiers 1 and 2; providing the digital therapy to all participants who had completed tier 3 treatment but not tracking usage during this preventative/maintenance phase; and conclusions about the effectiveness of STAND compared with another treatment cannot be drawn. Note: This article was not used in the rating process due to the lack of a control group.
