Johnray Penoliar is a Research Associate for the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare (CEBC). In this role, he is responsible for conducting literature searches, creating research summaries, and providing research support that aids in achieving the goals of the CEBC and Rady Children’s Chadwick Center as a whole.

Johnray has worked at the Center for Healthy Eating & Activity Research (CHEAR) at UC San Diego, School of Medicine - Pediatrics Department as a Clinical Research Assistant for 2 years before transitioning into his current role. He concurrently works as a Medical Scribe in Hepatology, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Surgery for the Southern California Liver GI Centers in San Diego, and while not at work, he volunteers his time weekly at the Pediatric Emergency Department at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Johnray is a double-major graduate and earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Psychology with a specialization in Human Health and his Bachelor’s of Arts in GlobalHealth with Honors Distinction from UC San Diego, Class of 2023.

An aspiring public health researcher and healthcare provider, he aims to use his learned research and clinical skills to foster equitable health education access, promote health justice, advocate for maternal child health, and provide holistic care across children and families within underserved sectors, especially within migrant/refugee communities.
